Thor Kitchen Range Series Compared: A Series, S Series, LRG, Pro and X Series
Thor Kitchen range series decide most of what you get for your money: the burner layout, the oven features and the finish choices all change from one family to the next. Thor sells its pro-style ranges in several lines (the A Series, the LRG models, the S Series, the tilt-panel TRG and TRE models, the HRG and HRD professional models, and the X Series), and the names alone don't tell you how they differ. This guide lines the Thor Kitchen range series up side by side using the specifications Thor publishes for each model, so you can choose a range without opening every product page.
Thor Kitchen Range Series at a Glance
Every Thor range shares the same pro-style look, with continuous cast-iron grates on the gas models. What changes between Thor Kitchen range series is how far the features go. As you move up the lineup you get a stronger top burner, a lower simmer, a better broiler, telescopic oven racks and conveniences like self-clean and a soft-close door.
The short version: the A Series and S Series cover the essentials of a pro-style range with a large convection oven. The LRG models add sizes from 24 inches up to 60 inches. The TRG and TRE tilt-panel models add touch controls, self-clean and air fry. The HRG and HRD professional models and the X Series add the upgrades serious cooks notice every day, including infrared broilers, LuxGlide telescopic racks and much wider burner ranges. You can browse every model in our Thor Kitchen ranges collection.
Thor 36-Inch Gas Ranges Compared Series by Series
The 36-inch gas range is the only width offered in every series. That makes it the fairest way to compare the Thor Kitchen range series. The figures below come from Thor's own specifications for each model.
| Model | Series | Oven capacity | Burner output (as published) | Stand-out features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ARG36 | A Series | 6.0 cu. ft. | Six sealed burners, 18,000 BTU down to 9,000 BTU | Convection fan, one-piece porcelain spill tray; matte black and white versions |
| SRG3601 | S Series | 6.0 cu. ft. | Six burners, 18,000 BTU down to a 3,500 BTU simmer burner | Convection fan, black porcelain interior, metal knobs, storage drawer, standard 120V outlet |
| LRG3601U | LRG | 6.0 cu. ft. | Six burners: two 18,000 BTU dual burners down to 9,000 BTU | Commercial convection fan, reflective gas tube broiler, storage drawer; black and white versions |
| TRG3601 | Tilt panel | 6.0 cu. ft. | 18,000 BTU burner down to a 650 BTU simmer function | Tilt-panel touch controls, true convection with an 800W element, self-clean, air fryer |
| HRG3618U | Professional (HRG) | 5.2 cu. ft. | 18,000 BTU single, two 15,000 BTU dual burners, three 12,000 BTU burners, 650 BTU simmer | Infrared broiler, LuxGlide telescopic rack |
| XRG36E | X Series | 6.0 cu. ft. | Italian brass burners, 22,000 BTU dual burner that simmers down to 1,000 BTU | Self-clean, infrared broiler, LuxGlide racks, soft-close door, blue LED knobs, automatic re-ignition |
Two patterns stand out. First, oven capacity is close across the board: five of the six hold 6.0 cu. ft., and the HRG3618U gives up 0.8 cu. ft. in exchange for its professional burner layout and infrared broiler. Second, the real spread is in the cooktop. The strongest burner is rated 18,000 BTU on five of the six models and 22,000 BTU on the X Series, and the low end runs from 9,000 BTU on the A Series down to a 650 BTU simmer on the TRG3601 and HRG3618U. For many cooks, the simmer matters more than the peak output, because it decides whether a sauce holds without scorching.
A Series and S Series: Thor's Entry Pro-Style Ranges
The A Series and S Series are Thor's entry pro-style lines. Both deliver the look and the oven size of a professional range with a straightforward feature set.
A Series ranges come in 30-inch and 36-inch gas and electric versions and a 48-inch gas version. The 36-inch ARG36 has six sealed burners from 18,000 BTU to 9,000 BTU and a 6.0 cu. ft. convection oven. The A Series also covers color: the ARG36B in matte black and the ARG36W in white, plus 48-inch white models with standard or bronze hardware. The 48-inch ARG48 adds eight burners and a double oven.
S Series ranges come in 30-inch and 36-inch widths in gas and electric. The SRG3601 pairs an 18,000 BTU burner with a 3,500 BTU simmer burner, a lower simmer than the A Series, and adds metal knobs and a black porcelain oven interior. The 30-inch SRG3001 and SRE3001 hold 5.0 cu. ft., and the 36-inch models hold 6.0 cu. ft.
Choose the A Series if you want a matte black or white range, or a 48-inch with eight burners. Choose the S Series if a gentler simmer and metal controls matter more to you than color.
LRG Models: The Widest Range of Sizes
The LRG models cover more widths than any other Thor family. The LRG2401U brings a 3.7 cu. ft. oven to a 24-inch space. The LRG3001U fits five burners and a 4.55 cu. ft. oven into 30 inches. The 36-inch LRG3601U holds 6.0 cu. ft., and the 48-inch LRG4807U offers a double oven totaling 6.8 cu. ft. The 30, 36 and 48-inch sizes also come in black and white.
At the top of the family is the LRG60E, the largest range in the Thor lineup. It has six sealed burners plus a cast-iron grill and a cast-iron griddle (each rated 9,000 BTU), burners from a 3,500 BTU simmer up to two 18,000 BTU burners, and two 4.8 cu. ft. convection ovens. If you cook for a crowd or bake and roast at the same time, two full ovens are the feature to look at.
Tilt-Panel TRG and TRE Ranges: Touch Controls, Self-Clean and Air Fry
Thor's tilt-panel models swap traditional oven knobs for a touch panel that tilts up for use and lies flat when you're done. They come in 30-inch and 36-inch widths, in gas (TRG) and electric (TRE). The 36-inch TRG3601 has a 6.0 cu. ft. self-cleaning oven with an air fryer, true convection from an 800W element, and burners from 18,000 BTU down to a 650 BTU simmer. The 36-inch TRE3601 brings the same 6.0 cu. ft. self-cleaning, air-fry oven to an all-electric range.
Choose a tilt-panel model if you want touch controls and self-clean without moving up to the X Series. For air fry, pick the TRG3601, the 30-inch TRE3001 or the TRE3601; the 30-inch TRG3001 self-cleans but does not air fry.
HRG and HRD Professional Ranges
The HRG gas and HRD dual fuel ranges are Thor's professional models. The 36-inch HRG3618U has the most varied burner layout in this guide: an 18,000 BTU burner, two 15,000 BTU dual burners and three 12,000 BTU burners, with a simmer function down to 650 BTU. It adds an infrared broiler for even searing and a LuxGlide telescopic rack that glides out on ball bearings without tipping.
At 48 inches, the HRG4808U is the gas double-oven version and the HRD4803U is a 6.7 cu. ft. dual fuel range, gas on top with an electric oven below. If you are weighing gas against dual fuel, our Thor gas vs dual fuel vs electric guide covers the hookups each one needs.
Thor X Series: The Premium Thor Kitchen Range Series
The X Series is Thor's premium professional line, and it is the only Thor Kitchen range series offered in gas, dual fuel and induction. The 36-inch XRG36E uses six sealed Italian brass burners, led by a 22,000 BTU dual burner that also simmers down to 1,000 BTU, so one burner handles both a hard sear and a delicate sauce. Its 6.0 cu. ft. oven offers bake, convection bake, roast, convection roast, high and low broil, keep warm, pizza and self-clean, with an infrared broiler, LuxGlide telescopic racks and a soft-close door. Blue LED knobs show which burners are on, and automatic re-ignition relights a flame that blows out.
The rest of the X Series follows the same pattern. The XRD36E is the 36-inch dual fuel version with air fry. The XRG48E and XRD48E add double ovens at 48 inches.
X Series induction: the XRI30E (4.8 cu. ft.) and XRI36E (6.0 cu. ft.) are Thor's induction ranges, both with air fry and self-clean. Induction heats the pan directly, so it needs magnetic cookware. Cast iron and many stainless steel pans work; aluminum and copper pans do not unless they have a magnetic base. Compare them with Thor's other electric ranges in our Thor electric and induction ranges collection.
Which Thor Kitchen Range Series Should You Choose?
These are the questions that settle it fastest.
Your width is fixed. Measure the opening first. A 24-inch space points to the LRG2401U or the electric HRE2401. A 60-inch space points to the LRG60E. At 30, 36 and 48 inches you have several series to choose from. Our Thor 30 vs 36 vs 48-inch sizing guide walks through depth, oven size and power needs for each width.
You simmer and sear in the same meal. Look at the X Series (22,000 BTU down to 1,000 BTU on one burner) or the HRG3618U and TRG3601 (650 BTU simmer).
You broil often. Infrared broilers are on the HRG professional ranges and the X Series gas ranges.
You want color. The A Series and LRG models come in black and white, and the A Series 48-inch comes in white with bronze hardware.
You want induction or air fry. Induction is only in the X Series (XRI30E and XRI36E). Air fry is on the TRG3601, TRE3001 and TRE3601 tilt-panel ranges and on the X Series XRD36E, XRD48E, XRI30E and XRI36E.
Whatever series you pick, size the hood to match. A 36-inch range needs at least a 36-inch hood, and the higher-output X Series and professional ranges benefit from more airflow. Our Thor range hood CFM sizing guide matches each Thor range to a hood.
Thor Kitchen Range Series FAQ
Which Thor range has the lowest simmer?
Among the 36-inch gas models in this guide, the tilt-panel TRG3601 and the professional HRG3618U list a 650 BTU simmer function. The X Series XRG36E simmers at 1,000 BTU on the same burner that reaches 22,000 BTU.
Does Thor make a 60-inch range?
Yes. The LRG60E is a 60-inch gas range with six burners, a cast-iron grill, a cast-iron griddle and two 4.8 cu. ft. convection ovens, and it is available in natural gas or as the factory liquid propane LRG60ELP.
Which Thor ranges come in colors other than stainless?
The A Series offers matte black and white 36-inch gas and electric ranges, a white 48-inch gas range and a white 48-inch with bronze hardware. The LRG models come in black and white at 30, 36 and 48 inches.
What electrical circuit does a Thor range need?
It depends on the fuel. The gas models we checked, including the XRG36E, SRG3601 and LRG60E, plug into a standard 120V outlet for ignition, lights and fans. Dual fuel ranges have electric ovens and need a 240V circuit; Thor specifies 240V, 50A for the 48-inch XRD48E. Always confirm against the installation manual for your exact model.
