AIS Transponders & Transceivers
An AIS transponder shows you the name, course and speed of nearby vessels on your chartplotter and broadcasts your own position so they can see you. Choose from the SOLAS-certified em-trak A200 Class A, the B400 and B200 5W Class B units, the compact B900 series and the I100-X small vessel tracker.

How to choose an AIS unit
- Class A or Class B: Class A (12.5W) is required on SOLAS vessels and many commercial and inland waterway craft. Leisure boats and most work boats use Class B.
- 2W CSTDMA or 5W SOTDMA: 5W SOTDMA Class B units reach further, update faster and get priority in busy waters. 2W CSTDMA is the budget choice for coastal and inland use.
- Transceiver or receiver: a transceiver shows other vessels and broadcasts your position; a receiver such as the R300 only shows other vessels.
- One antenna or two: models with a built-in VHF splitter (B923, B924, B953, B954 and the X100) share your existing VHF antenna. Otherwise add an S300 splitter or a dedicated AIS antenna.
- Wired or wireless: every em-trak unit outputs NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth models also connect to phones, tablets and navigation apps.
