Matching a mower to your yard

• 40V push mowers — PowerSmart's 17-inch models: the MB2417A with a 4.0Ah battery and charger, and the MB2480C sold as a combo kit with a 40V leaf blower. Lightest and easiest to store; suited to small, flat lots.
• 80V self-propelled — PowerSmart's 22-inch brushless self-propelled model. The wider deck and higher voltage are what you want on a larger lot, and self-propel earns its price on any real slope.
• Commercial-grade — the Makita GML01PL 40V max XGT brushless 21-inch self-propelled commercial mower, for buyers who want a battery mower rated for daily use.
• Corded electric — the PowerSmart DB8015, a 14-inch 15-amp push mower. No battery to charge or replace, at the cost of managing a cord.

The specification that actually decides it

Deck width sets how many passes your lawn takes; battery amp-hours set whether you finish in one go. A 4.0Ah pack on a 17-inch deck and an 80V pack on a 22-inch deck are aimed at very different yard sizes. Check whether the listing includes a battery and charger — some are sold as kits and some are tool-only — and note that batteries are not cross-compatible between voltage platforms or brands.
