Thor Kitchen Ranges: 30 vs 36 vs 48 Inch, Which Size Fits Your Kitchen?
The first question on any Thor Kitchen range is not gas or electric. It is width. Your cabinet opening decides which models are even possible, and the width you pick also decides how many burners you get, how big the oven is, and which hood you will need. This guide walks through the Thor ranges we carry by size, with the measured dimensions and power needs from each model's spec sheet.
The quick answer
- Replacing a standard range? You almost certainly have a 30-inch opening. Start with the 30-inch models.
- Cook for a crowd or bake a lot? A 36-inch range adds burners and oven space, but only fits a 36-inch opening.
- Remodeling around the range? 48-inch models give you a double oven and a griddle, and need the cabinet layout planned around them.
- Small kitchen or apartment? The 24-inch models keep four burners in a compact footprint.

| 36" | HRG3618U | Gas (NG or LP) | 5.2 cu. ft. | 6 burners, 84,000 BTU total | 120V, 15A |
| 36" | LRG3601U | Gas (NG or LP) | 6.0 cu. ft. | 6 burners, up to 18,000 BTU | 120V, 15A |
| 36" | TRG3601 | Gas (NG or LP) | 6.0 cu. ft. self-clean, air fry | 6 burners, up to 18,000 BTU | 120V |
| 36" | ARE36 | Electric | 6.0 cu. ft. convection | Electric elements | 240V, 50A |
| 36" | TRE3601 | Electric | 6.0 cu. ft. self-clean, air fry | Electric elements | 240V, 50A |
| 48" | HRG4808U | Gas (NG or LP) | Double oven, 6.7 cu. ft. total | 6 burners (99,000 BTU) plus 15,000 BTU griddle | 120V |
| 48" | LRG4807U | Gas (NG or LP) | Double oven, 6.8 cu. ft. total | Burners up to 18,000 BTU plus 15,000 BTU griddle | 120V, 15A |
| 48" | HRD4803ULP | Dual fuel (LP) | Electric double oven, 6.7 cu. ft. | 6 burners (90,000 BTU) plus 15,000 BTU griddle | 240V, 4-prong 14-50R outlet |
Power ratings are the circuit each spec sheet calls for. Gas ranges still need a standard 120V outlet for ignition, lights and the convection fan. The dual fuel HRD4803ULP needs a 240V circuit with a 4-prong 14-50R outlet.
How to measure before you choose
Width. Measure the opening between the cabinets at the counter. A "30-inch" range is built to fit a 30-inch opening, and several Thor models measure just under their class width (the TRG3001 and TRE3001 are 29 7/8 inches wide) so they slide in.
Depth. Pro-style ranges stick out past standard 24-inch-deep cabinets. Measured from the back panel to the front edge, the ARG36 is 26 7/8 inches deep, the ARG30 27 inches, the LRG3601U 27 1/2 inches and the HRG3618U 27 15/16 inches. That is normal for pro-style ranges, but check the depth on the model page if you want a flush look.
Height. Many models have adjustable legs. The TRE3001 and TRE3601 adjust from 36 to 39 inches, so you can level them to your counter.
30-inch: the replacement size
If you are swapping out an existing range, a 30-inch Thor drops into the space you already have. The ARG30 is the straightforward pick, with four sealed burners and a 4.8 cu. ft. convection oven. The LRG3001U adds a fifth burner. The TRG3001 (gas) and TRE3001 (electric) add a self-cleaning oven and a tilt control panel, and the TRE3001 adds air fry.
36-inch: more burners, bigger oven
Going from 30 to 36 inches gets you six burners and, on several models, a 6.0 cu. ft. oven. The ARG36 pairs six sealed burners with a 6.1 cu. ft. convection oven. The HRG3618U is the heavier-duty option: 84,000 BTU across six burners, including an 18,000 BTU burner and two dual burners that simmer down to 650 BTU. Moving from a 30-inch to a 36-inch opening means changing the cabinets on one side, so plan that work before you order. For a deeper look at this size, read our 36-inch range buying guide.
48-inch: double oven and griddle
At 48 inches the extra width goes into a second oven and a griddle. The HRG4808U runs six burners (three 18,000 BTU and three 15,000 BTU dual burners) plus a 15,000 BTU griddle over a double oven totaling 6.7 cu. ft. The LRG4807U offers a double oven totaling 6.8 cu. ft. with a 15,000 BTU griddle. The HRD4803ULP is the dual fuel option, with 90,000 BTU of propane burners and a 15,000 BTU griddle over electric ovens, and it needs a 240V circuit with a 4-prong 14-50R outlet.
Plan the hood with the range
A bigger range puts out more heat and smoke, so the hood grows with it. Match the hood width to the range, or go wider. Our range hood CFM sizing guide explains how much airflow each size needs, and the Thor Kitchen collection has matching hoods in 24, 30, 36 and 48 inches.
Common questions
Can a 36-inch range replace a 30-inch range? Only if you widen the opening. The cabinet next to the range has to be cut down or replaced, and the countertop changes with it.
Do Thor 48-inch gas ranges need a 240V outlet? No. The HRG4808U and LRG4807U spec sheets call for a 120V circuit. The 48-inch dual fuel HRD4803ULP is different: it needs 240V for the electric ovens, with a 4-prong 14-50R outlet.
Are these ranges available for propane? Most of the gas models are sold in natural gas and LP versions. Pick the LP version if your home runs on propane.
