Sizing rule: match or exceed the cooking surface

A hood should be at least as wide as the range or cooktop below it. A 24-inch hood pairs with a 24-inch range. Putting a 24-inch hood over a 30-inch cooktop leaves the front burners uncaptured and defeats most of the point — if your cooking surface is wider, size up.

Ducted vs. ductless

Ducted vents grease, steam, and combustion byproducts outside. Always the better performer, and effectively required over gas. Ductless (recirculating) filters through charcoal and returns the air to the room — it removes odor and some grease but no heat or moisture. Ductless is the compromise when an exterior wall run isn't possible, which is common in the apartment and ADU installs these hoods are built for.

ADA models

Summit's ADA-suffixed models (SEH4624SSADA, SEH3624SSADA, SEH1524SSADA) meet accessible-reach requirements for controls. If the kitchen is being built to an accessibility standard or you're specifying for a rental or care setting, order the ADA variant — the non-ADA model is otherwise identical and will fail inspection.

Check your CFM requirement against your range's BTU output, and confirm duct diameter and direction (vertical or horizontal) before ordering — changing it after installation means opening the wall.
