Amish Furniture Lead Times Explained: Made to Order, Quick Ship & Custom

Amish furniture lead times are longer than big-box furniture because most pieces are not sitting in a warehouse — they are built after you order. For Barkman Furniture, the Amish-made hardwood line we carry at Urban Supply, there are three timelines to know: made to order (about 9 weeks), Quick Ship (about 2 weeks) and custom from scratch (about 12 weeks after drawing approval). Those are build times; delivery to your home is white-glove in-home delivery, which adds about 3 weeks after the piece ships. This guide explains what each one means and how to plan around it.

Amish Furniture Lead Times at a Glance

Order type Approximate lead time (until it ships) Approximate total with white-glove in-home delivery What it covers
Made to order About 9 weeks About 12 weeks Most Barkman catalog pieces, built in the configuration you order
Quick Ship About 2 weeks About 5 weeks Specific Barkman Quick Ship configurations only
Custom from scratch About 12 weeks after drawing approval About 15 weeks after drawing approval One-of-a-kind pieces built from a sketch or description

Lead time is the time until the piece is ready to ship. White-glove in-home delivery then adds about 3 weeks, so allow about 5 weeks in total for Quick Ship and about 12 weeks for made-to-order pieces. Every Barkman product page on our store states which timeline applies in its Shipping & Lead Time section.

Why Made-to-Order Amish Furniture Takes About 9 Weeks

Barkman describes building each piece as a journey from forest to home. Its hardwood is sourced exclusively from sustainable Midwest forests, and the lumber is graded, sorted and dried to ensure proper seasoning before it is used. Frames are built with time-honored joinery — dovetailing, tongue-and-groove, box joints and mortise-and-tenon.

After assembly, each piece goes through hours of planing, filling small knots and hand-sanding so it takes the finish evenly. The finish itself combines automated spray application with hand-wiping and hand-sanding. Pieces are then blanket-wrapped for transport. That sequence is why most of the Barkman Furniture collection ships in approximately 9 weeks.

Quick Ship Amish Furniture: About 2 Weeks

Barkman's Quick Ship program covers specific configurations, not whole collections. A few examples from Barkman's Quick Ship list:

If you order the same model in a different size, wood or finish, it is made to order and the 9-week timeline applies. Either way, add about 3 weeks for white-glove in-home delivery. Browse every Quick Ship item in our Barkman Quick Ship collection.

Custom Amish Furniture: About 12 Weeks After Drawing Approval

Barkman also builds furniture to your own design — either a small change to an in-line piece or a true "from a sketch" custom piece. The process starts with a line drawing or description, Barkman returns a quote, and then provides drawings for approval. The roughly 12-week build time starts after the drawings are approved, so allow time for the quote and drawing steps too. Contact us if you would like to start a custom project.

How to Plan Around Amish Furniture Lead Times

Order early for a deadline. If you need a dining table before a holiday or a bedroom set before a move, count back at least 12 weeks for made-to-order pieces (about 9 weeks to build plus about 3 weeks for white-glove in-home delivery) and about 5 weeks for Quick Ship. Shop closures around the holidays can add time, so ask us before you order.

Check whether Quick Ship fits. If timing matters more than a specific wood or size, start with the Quick Ship collection.

Order matching pieces together. Ordering a table, chairs and bench at the same time keeps the set on one timeline. Our dining table buying guide and dining chair buying guide cover sizing before you commit.
