Solar Charge Controllers
A charge controller sits between the solar array and the battery bank, tracking the array's maximum power point and regulating charge so the batteries are filled correctly and not damaged.

View full detailsHow to Choose
MPPT, not PWM, for anything beyond a trickle charger — MPPT recovers 15-30% more energy by converting excess array voltage into charge current. Size on two numbers: maximum PV open-circuit voltage at your coldest temperature, and maximum charge current to the battery. Exceeding the voltage limit destroys the controller, and cold mornings are when it happens.
Key Specifications Explained
- Topology: MPPT strongly preferred over PWM
- PV input voltage: 75V to 450V Voc depending on model
- Charge current: 10A to 200A
- Battery voltage: 12V, 24V and 48V, often auto-detecting
- Comms: VE.Direct, VE.Can, RS485 and Bluetooth for monitoring
Brands We Carry
Victron Energy, EG4 Electronics, OutBack Power, MidNite Solar and Growatt.
Frequently Asked Questions
MPPT or PWM?
MPPT for any real array. It converts surplus voltage into current and typically returns 15-30% more energy.
How do I size PV input voltage?
Use module Voc at your record low temperature, multiplied by modules in series, then leave headroom. Cold raises Voc and that is what kills controllers.
Can I parallel charge controllers?
Yes on most systems — multiple controllers can feed one bank, which is common when arrays face different directions.
