Drawer models install below the counter and open like a drawer, which keeps the sightline clear and puts the food at waist height. Built-in models sit flush in cabinetry. Countertop models need no installation at all.

• Venting — over-the-range models list their CFM in the title. If the microwave is replacing a hood, that number matters.
• Capacity — drawer models are commonly 1.2 cu. ft.; over-the-range and countertop models run larger.
• Trim and finish — stainless steel, black and white, with brass-handle options in the Forno Espresso line.
