Insert Range Hoods

A range hood insert is the blower and filter assembly on its own, built to be recessed into custom cabinetry, a plaster hood or a masonry chimney breast so the ventilation disappears and only the cabinetry shows. It is the choice when you do not want a visible stainless chimney over the range.

This collection holds 28 inserts from Victory Range Hoods, Forno and Cosmo, from $199 to $2,944. Sizing runs from 21-inch power packs up to 60-inch recessed units, so the insert can be matched to the opening rather than the range width alone.

• Integrated blower. Victory's X2 series and the Cosmo ducted inserts carry the motor inside the housing — simpler to install, and the standard approach for most kitchens.
• Remote blower. Several Victory units, including the 36-inch and 42-inch models, are built for an inline or exterior blower. The motor moves out of the kitchen, which is the quietest configuration and the usual specification on a long duct run.

Airflow ratings shown on these products range from 450 CFM through 1,000 CFM, with Forno's Frassanito recessed insert at 900 CFM. Match the rating to your cooking surface and duct length — a longer or more elbowed run needs more airflow to deliver the same result at the hood.

Measure the cabinet or hood cavity before ordering, not the range: the insert has to sit inside the opening with clearance for the duct collar.
