Electric inserts and built-in fireboxes install into a wall opening, an existing masonry firebox or a cabinet surround. No flue, no gas line, no chimney work — which is why they go into rooms a vented fireplace cannot reach. Amantii and Dimplex split this page, and the practical choice is format before brand.

The formats stocked here are linear built-ins that sit flush in a wall, traditional self-trimming inserts that drop into an existing firebox opening, standalone fireboxes for a custom surround, 3-sided see-through units for room dividers, and media console models that arrive as furniture. Amantii runs the Panorama, Symmetry, Tru View and Zero Clearance series in slim, deep and extra-tall depths, with outdoor-rated Panorama versions. Dimplex runs Multi-Fire XHD fireboxes, Multi-Fire SL and IgniteXL linear built-ins, the Winslow wall-mount and tabletop line, and an Opti-Myst water vapor model that produces a mist flame instead of a lit LED effect.

Size and install decisions:

• Width — models run from 23 inches through 88 inches; the number in the title is the nominal width, so measure the opening before ordering.
• Depth — slim units suit shallow stud walls, deep units want a framed chase.
• Media bed — log sets, acrylic ember beds and acrylic ice embers change the look considerably.
• Power — plug-in models work on a standard outlet; built-in models are commonly hardwired.
