Gas Fireplaces

Gas fireplaces here run from a 22-inch direct vent unit to an 84-inch linear, across Napoleon, Kingsman, Sierra Flame, Superior Fireplaces, Majestic, Faber, Empire, and Buck Stove. Venting is the first decision, because it determines what your house can physically accept.

• Direct vent — the bulk of this collection. A sealed firebox pulls combustion air from outside and pushes exhaust back out through a coaxial pipe, so it needs an exterior wall or roof run. Zero-clearance models frame into new construction; inserts such as the Kingsman IDV series, Napoleon Oakville and Roxbury, and the Majestic Ruby retrofit an existing masonry firebox.
• Vent free — no flue at all, so installation is far simpler. Buck Stove, Napoleon's Grandville GVF, and Superior's VRT and VRL series are the vent-free options. Check local code first; vent-free is not permitted everywhere.
• Outdoor — Majestic Courtyard, Lanai and Vesper, Kingsman's OFP42, Napoleon Riverside and Galaxy, and Superior's Elite series are built for covered patios and outdoor rooms.

Then shape. Single-sided front-facing is the default. See-through and peninsula models — Kingsman MCVST and MCVP, Napoleon's Ascent Multi-View — open into two rooms at once. Faber's MatriX series is offered single-sided, two-sided left or right, and three-sided bay. For the long modern flame ribbon, look at the Napoleon Vector, Superior's DRL linear series, and Kingsman's ZCVRB and VRB linear units. Sierra Flame's Austin, Vienna and Toscana push the widest, up to 65 inches.

Last, ignition. Millivolt standing-pilot systems light without household power. Electronic and intermittent pilot ignition, including Majestic's IntelliFire Touch, skips the year-round pilot flame. Log sets, refractory brick and porcelain liners, blowers, remotes, thermostats and weather covers are stocked separately.
