30 Inch Range Hoods

Thirty inches is the standard cooktop width, so this is the hood size most kitchens are shopping. What you are really choosing between is mount style, ducting, and airflow.

Mount style. Under-cabinet hoods slide into the cabinet run above the range and are the cheapest, simplest swap — Cosmo, Forno and Victory Range Hoods all build one. Wall-mount chimney hoods remove that cabinet and become the visual centerpiece; Forno's Biagio, Palazzo and Savona, Thor Kitchen's stainless models, and Victory's Twister live here. Inserts, like Victory's Q2 with a remote blower, hide inside custom millwork so only the liner shows. Summit Appliances also lists ADA versions of several of its 30-inch hoods if you are building to accessible-height requirements.

Ducting. Ducted out through a wall or roof is always the stronger performer. Where an exterior run is not possible, the ductless and convertible models here recirculate through a filter instead — Cosmo's ductless wall mount and Forno's convertible Cappa are the ones to look at.

Airflow. Blowers in this collection are listed from 200 CFM up to 750 CFM, with the remote-blower Victory units at 450/600 CFM. Match airflow to how you actually cook. A modest four-burner gas range does not need what a pro-style burner setup needs, and oversized airflow in a tight kitchen mostly buys you noise. Also plan the duct run itself: shorter and straighter moves more air than any spec sheet number.
